Job Summary

Mid-Columbia Libraries (MCL) is seeking a community-focused leader to serve as Branch Manager for the Kennewick Branch, MCL's central library. The Branch Manager plans, organizes, and manages our largest library (over 926,000 items circulated and 27,500 computer sessions in 2023) in accordance with the mission, budget, policies and procedures of MCL. In this position, the Branch Manager will directly manage a team of approximately 10 union employees, and oversee branch operations of a total of 20 union and non‐union staff; monitor library and collection usage; resolve customer concerns; act as a liaison with the local community; and oversee the provision of branch programs, services and resources. The Branch Manager will develop and implement branch goals, objectives and plans while demonstrating good stewardship of library resources and will be expected to anticipate needs and respond quickly to a variety of situations.  

The ideal candidate works proactively, demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and is able to resolve challenges professionally. Will provide regular coaching and guidance to staff and promote a positive and collaborative work environment. 

Hiring Range & Benefits:

Branch Manager V: $31.26/hour-$36.23/hour DOQ + benefits including paid time off (sick, vacation, holidays), healthcare, Washington State PERS retirement, union-represented, and $2,000 annual bilingual premium pay available!

Branch Manager V + MLIS: $33.76-$39.13/hour DOQ +benefits including paid time off (sick, vacation, holidays), healthcare, Washington State PERS retirement, union-represented, and $2,000 annual bilingual premium pay available!

A Branch Manager with an MLIS degree will be expected to serve as a subject matter expert and be responsible for the selection and maintenance of content, programming, and/or training development for personnel throughout the MCL system. This position will provide heightened community-based outreach, contribute to regular leadership functions and participate in staff committees and/or internal focus groups.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates will have at least three (3) years of library experience, including two (2) years or more of lead or supervisory experience.

  • Master of Library Science degree and Washington State Librarian certificate
