Summer Reading Challenge 2020

Once upon a time, at a library near, the Summer Reading Challenge brought kids and adults hours of cheer. From June 1 to August 14, imagine your story by reading or listening for 15 hours for a chance to win!


For the health and safety of our customers, staff, and guest performers, all Summer Reading Challenge programs will be online this year. Check out the weekly activities below for fun, educational projects you can complete at home; a new theme and activities will be posted each week! Follow us on Facebook for special events.

 

Rules:

1. Register online (registration begins June 1).

2. READ or LISTEN for 15 hours.

3. Fill out a challenge log as you complete activities.

4. Turn in the completed challenge log at your library and collect your finisher prize. 

5. Optional: Complete 5 Explore and 5 Create activities for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.

Teens & Adults:

1. Register online (registration begins June 1).

2. Play Book Bingo! Read books in the categories listed to earn a bingo by completing a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line.

3. Turn in your bingo card at your local library and collect your finisher prize. 

Bookmark Contest:

We want to publish your work! Kids 18 and under are invited to create a bookmark based on the theme "Imagine Your Story." Think folktales, fairy tales, and mythology! 

1. Using a blank piece of paper, measure and draw a rectangle 8.5" wide by 2.5" tall. Or, print the template.

2. Create an original design staying inside the rectangle. One entry per person, please.

3. Take a photo and send it to us on Facebook, or by email to comm@midcolumbialibraries.org by Friday, June 5. Include the artist's first name, age, and library branch in your message.

4. VERY important: Keep your paper copy in a safe place. If your design is chosen, we will contact you and request your original design.

5. All entries are eligible and may be reproduced for public distribution and/or shared online. MCL may use each winner’s first name and design for publicity purposes.

Prizes:

Kids ages 12 and under who finish the challenge receive a free book; kids 13 and older and adults get a book bag, while supplies last. All finishers will be entered to win a Nintendo Switch! Prizes are sponsored by Friends of Mid-Columbia Libraries. Beginning July 6, finishers may turn in their completed logs to their local library and collect their prize. Click here to view prizes.

Performers & Special Events:

Mid-Columbia Libraries is working with our partners to offer virtual programs, including concerts on Zoom with fun, witty singer Eric Herman on July 8 at 11 am and Latin Grammy-winning children's group The Lucky Band on July 24 at 11 am. Check our web calendar or Facebook events for details.
