Hours of Work: Varies – up to 50 hours/month; some daytime, evening and weekend hours required. Shift durations will vary and may be requested day of and in advance (to cover for planned events/absences).

Salary Range: $17.11/hour

Job Summary:

Work Location: Basin City, Connell, Kahlotus, Merrill's Corner, and Othello 

We are seeking individuals with flexible schedules available to serve as back-up for regular Mid-Columbia Libraries’ employees on an on-call basis.  Substitutes will assist library customers through a variety of activities at the customer service desk which may include checking library materials in and out, issuing library cards, taking payments, updating library customer records, and placing holds. Substitutes will provide basic information about materials, programs and services offered by MCL and may also resolve issues related to customer accounts. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; one year of library or general clerical experience with public contact; or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

  • Ability to obtain a valid Washington driver’s license.

  • Knowledge of current office methods, equipment, practices and procedures including PC usage and familiarity with Microsoft Office, and other personal computer applications, emailing systems, web-based searching, and eReaders.

  • Professional experience in a library, retail, customer service, or education setting is highly desired

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) a plus

Job Posting - Communications Manager

Job Summary:

Mid-Columbia Libraries serves the residents of Benton, Franklin, and parts of Adams counties through 12 branch libraries. Serving our growing and diverse communities requires creativity, dynamic thinking, and commitment as we embrace multiple formats and communication channels to reach our customers.

MCL is currently seeking a Communications Manager to develop and execute communications, marketing, and promotions to advance the library’s strategic goals and objectives.  In this position, the Communications Manager will lead our communications team and serve as publisher and editor-in-chief of MCL’s digital presence, including the website, social media, and videos for the purpose of promoting MCL’s services and programs.  The Communications Manager acts as the primary point of contact and spokesperson to the media. 

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in communication, journalism, marketing, or related discipline.

    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications, public relations, and/or marketing, including supervisory experience.

    • Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

    • Bilingual/biliterate candidates (English and Spanish) preferred.

    • Skilled in using Windows based computers, Microsoft Office (Outlook and Publisher), and social media platforms (primarily Facebook and Instagram).  Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Illustrator and InDesign, a plus! 

    • Strengths in business writing and interpersonal communication.

    • Legally drive in Washington State.
