These are the picture books that make me smile every time they come across the desk. They tackle subjects in fun ways, make jokes for the adults while still being funny for the kids, have great artwork, and are just all around must haves.

If you give a mouse a cookie

Numeroff, Laura Joffe.

Relating the cycle of requests a mouse is likely to make after you give him a cookie takes the reader through a young child's day.

My Thoughts

A classic. You can't go wrong with any of the Laura Numeroff books. The repetition is good for kids, and the artwork is so fun. Warning: her books may make you hungry.

Knight Owl

My Thoughts

This has been a favorite since it first came across my desk. Who doesn't love a story with knights, dragons, and pizza?!

Wombat walkabout

Shields, Carol Diggory.

Rhyming text follows six little wombats on walkabout and a hungry dingo following, envisioning them as his lunch until the wombats turn the tables on him.

My Thoughts

I dare you to read this without doing an Australian accent. It's impossible and so much fun. Also very informative!

We don't eat our classmates

My Thoughts

I love the artwork and it teaches a great lesson in a fun way.

A library book for Bear

Becker, Bonny, author.

Although he sees no need for more books to read, Bear agrees to accompany Mouse to the library.

My Thoughts

This is a book that tests how many books a person really needs. Spoiler alert: more than most people have room for, which is where the library becomes such a benefit!

My Thoughts

I love books with colors. And flamingos. And food. This has it all and more.

They're so flamboyant

My Thoughts

Another favorite from recent years. More flamingoes, more colors, and the most important lesson of all: be yourself unapologetically.
