Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence
Mid-Columbia Libraries: 1949-2009
Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence
The seed of the Mid-Columbia Libraries was planted when voters in Benton and Franklin Counties voted to establish a library district November 2, 1948. The library district was formed on January 1, 1949.
Library service to Kennewick residents began "officially" in April 1949. Housed temporarily in City Hall, the library celebrated its grand opening in the remodeled Bank of Commerce building in August 1949.
The Bookmobile began service to customers on May 17, 1949.
Since that time, ten other libraries have opened and/or joined our library system. Today, with eleven libraries and a Bookmobile, Mid-Columbia Libraries celebrates 60 years of providing excellence in library services to our communities.
