Babble and Scribble
A baby babbles, trying to be part of the important talk Mommy is having with the doctor. A pre-school child scribbles in a book, trying to write like Daddy. These are big steps in children's lives. Language, reading and writing all develop at the same time and depend on each other. This begins even earlier than most of us can believe.
Now we know that even crying is a language - the language of a baby. "I think we should be more aware that crying is a language itself, and the baby is really trying to communicate with us by its first sounds already," sasy Kathleen Wermke of the Center for Prespeech Development at the University of Wurzburg in Germany.
